For The Illiterate or Those Who Enjoy Understanding Without Words

An auto shop in Palermo had these on their outside walls. I thought they were great. You don't usually find fun illustrations along with car care.

Recoleta Cemetery

The Recoleta Cemetery is amazing. You could spend days in there (when the heat isn't so killer.) While walking through mazes of mausoleums, I couldn't help but notice the advertisements of today, contrasting with the ancient architecture inside. I know I am often distracted by external forces but in this case it created an interesting dialog.

Quench that thirst!

Both the statue and the running figure represent saints in way: the running figure due to its pose and the statue (quite possibly is depending on your belief)because of its biblical references ...of this series, I think they go together the best.

I hadn't seen this billboard before...now I love it!

Xul Solar

Artist: Xul Solar
Showing: Museo Xul Solar

I thought I entered a dungeon-basement-storage space when I walked in the museum (Solar's past residence). Then looking at the paintings, everything merged together and made so much sense!

Of all his paintings I really enjoyed the 1920's and 1950's.

You will notice his futurist inclinations.

Ña Diáfana - 1923 - Acuarela - 26 x 32 cm

"In terms of painting, the Futurists wished to galvanize the static Cubist sill life: TThe movement we want to reproduce on canvas will no longer be one single, fixed moment of universal dynamism. Quite simply, it will be dynamic sensation itself. For everything moves, runs, changes rapidly. No outline is ever still before our eyes: it appears and disappears constantly."link

Tú y Yo - 1923 - Acuarela - 26 x 32 cm

Take note of the rainbow colors below. Information on the museum site says Solar was married to a woman but I got the impression that his relationship with Pettoruti was more than buddy buddy...I have found nothing to support this theory.

Pan Arbol - 1954 - Acuarela - 35.5 x 23.5 cm
The sharp colors, use of geometric shapes, and formulas fascinates me.

Pan Arbol - 1954 - Acuarela - 35.5 x 24 cm

Other mentionables about Solar:

Full name: Oscar Agustín Alejandro Schulz Solari
Created and maintained two new languages: “neocriollo” and “panlengua”
Illustrated books for Borges (for this I give him many bonus claps!)

Bright Lights in Argentina

Artist: Claudio Quiroga
Showing: Plaza Serrano

Everyday viewpoints from a another's perspective.

Claudio has been so helpful for me in communicating with all the artists at the Plaza Serrano Feria! If not for him, many posts might not have been possible. Enjoy photos as well as paintings on his site!

This reminds me of the movie "Lost in Translation," which I love.

My favorite of his abstract lights on the road.

In Times Like These

A day like this calls for Superheros. Thank you, Seth Armstrong.

Got to love the spandex...even in illustration.

Diving from buildings, makes me want to go dumpster diving. Random, I know.

These colorful dudes, made my day!

Other pieces I liked from Bacano Gallery

Walking in Banaco, I realized it was a furniture shop that doubles as an art gallery. It's genius! I totally support people purchasing their furniture, light fixtures, and what not along with the art that will surely accompany it! And being local art, you can inquire about commissionable pieces.

This looks like a Juan Torcoletti piece but I'm not sure. Anyone know?

Diana Chorne

Artist: Diana Chorne
Gallery: Escarlata Espacio de Arte
Address: Serrano, Palermo, Bs. As.

Excited to find another welcoming gallery.

I was hooked when I realized she resembles a smaller version of Louise Nevelson work. Chorne uses wood pieces for these pictures, creating a subtle 3D effect. With this grouping I love the progression of color. (They were hung left to right starting with the first two seen below.)

La Feria at Plaza Serrano

Local Artists
Plaza Serrano
Argentina

I love stepping out my front door Friday through Sunday and into sidewalks of creative and friendly artisans. Plaza Serrano holds a small feria, but so convenient that I can't help but wonder through when I get a chance. Today I was able to meet some artists and get photos of their work. And here are the best!

Marcelo Baliquinta

(The little guy in the flower's sharp chops makes this one my favorite. I can't help but chuckle a small one when I see him!)

Alejandro Thornton

Check out his conceptual dot work here!

Sebastian Chillemi

I see a minimalist collage thing mixed with Catholic imagry going on here.

Barca
Great color!

Viviana Derderian

Usually, I am not into work that uses Cubist techniques, which I see going on here. But I think the mood of the painting stands out more to me and also changes the style a bit.
